If we could only see the damage within ourselves from past experiences, like we can see the physical damage done from surgery, we would understand the importance of healing within ourselves. If you are hurting, feeling discouraged, broken, sad, anxious, angry, then you really need to focus on your inner YOU before you can heal and build up your physical YOU.
When we feel great, happy, content, or relaxed we tend to have energy and then that energy is used to move us, heal our bodies, and become more physically active. Ironically, when we do start moving our bodies not only is that good for our physical being, but it, in turn, lifts our spirits and helps with our emotional and mental state as well.
So what comes first? It’s like the chicken or egg scenario. If you are emotionally defeated, it’s hard to motivate yourself to do something good for yourself. Yet, if you could just push past that, the endorphins that your body releases when you become active can boost your spirits.
After all I have been through since 2013, when I couldn’t be active, left me feeling miserable at times. It actually took its toll on my body as I had gained 55 pounds through 5 years of knee surgeries. It was actually after I had my amputation that I was once again able to move, and rose up to once again, define who I was and live a better life. It was hard, I stumbled and fell often both physically and metaphorically, but I kept pushing myself, and the boundaries, until I began to soar.
The first picture, on top, was me right after my amputation in 2018. The 2nd picture is from 2 weeks ago.
I began doing things I thought I may never do again, I attempted new sports and activities, and found a pure joy that no one could take away from me. I healed myself from the inside out and accepted my new situation, and moved on from there, challenging myself to anything and everything I could think of as an amputee. I became so active that the extra weight dropped off and now I am more fit then I was, even in high school!
You can achieve this, if you want it. It takes commitment and perseverance. You must set goals and follow through, but it can be done.
Don’t count yourself out just yet. I believe in you!
It’s simple this week:
Write down all the emotions and feelings you are having that eat away at you. All the negative thoughts and feelings you have about yourself, where you are at in your life, your medical situation.
Now destroy that list! Burn it! Tear it to shreds! Crumple it up and throw it in the trash!
It’s time to move onward and upward. Today you learn to forgive, have grace, and think positive thoughts.
It’s never too late to start a new path, take a road less traveled, and to adjust your life.
Don’t put it off anymore, you deserve the best from yourself.
I believe in you! Let’s do this!
Best wishes on your new beginning!
As always,
Be Healthy,
Be Happy,
Be YOU!!!
Much love,
Angie

Each one of us struggles at one time or another. No one goes through life without challenges, even those who look like they have it “all together”, don’t go unscathed, they have just figured it out how to swim. They tackle the situation, use positivity, and keep pushing forward until they make it through the other side of pain and tribulation. Through our challenges we are given the chance to grow and find ourselves. We build character and an appreciation of the good times.
Challenges don’t pick and choose the time they come into our lives, we need to be ready to rock and roll with them when they show up. We need to be in our top form, mentally, emotionally, and physically, so we can handle them with strength, confidence, and grace.
In today’s podcast I share my journey about the most recent physical challenge that turned mental and how I pushed through and rose to the occasion. As hard as today was, I made it! While I struggled, I got a glimpse of my character and my weakness in my armor. It was then that I had to dig deep to find myself and the power I held to compete, and win.
What are you struggling with right now? What has you on your knees, begging for help? Whatever it is, know that you are not alone and that you CAN swim.
Odd as it may seem, when you’re struggling sometimes the best medicine is to redirect your attention elsewhere and do something that makes you feel good.
This week I want you to find something to challenge yourself with, something attainable but tough. Find a non-profit you believe in and go to work at helping them by raising funds and/or awareness while challenging yourself to get out and get active.
There’s nothing better than exercise and fresh air to make you feel better and alive.
So, get after it. You are a rockstar and ready to shine!
As always:
Be Healthy,
Be Happy,
Be YOU!!
Much love,
Angie

Sometimes we just feel like nothing is going right, we can get down on ourselves, or worse, OTHERS, because of what we are going through. When we expect certain things to go a certain way we can be setting ourselves up for a let down of epic proportions. I’m not saying you shouldn’t strive for your best, or to set those types of expectations/goals for yourselves. You should always work at achieving something greater than where you are at now, for example, if you want to walk to your mailbox, with your prosthetic, but have only gotten to the end of your driveway, then go for it. It’s achievable but will take hard work, time, and positive attitude. What I am referring to is how you feel in your prosthetic or what you are expecting from your prosthetist.
Be forewarned, you need to know the difference between a prosthetist who is giving his or her all to you and those who aren’t. You also need to know if you are just expecting too much. Remember, you lost your limb, nothing can replace the real thing. What you ARE looking for is something that will be doable to get around on and is comfortable enough NOT to cause any other issues, such as: blisters, infection, bruising, etc. YOU have to know the difference between when you are expecting too much or when your prosthetist isn’t giving enough. And that, my friends, takes time and listening to your gut.
You can best determine if you are getting the best care possible if your questions are being addressed, your concerns are being heard, and actions are being taken to assure your best interests are being met. If in your gut you feel you aren’t being heard, or given proper time to address issues you are having, then you probably aren’t in the right office. However, you also need to understand that no practitioner is going to be able to give you ‘perfect’. There is no such thing, and you need to manage THOSE expectations and find a common ground, one where you feel good enough about your fit, and aren’t in major pain. My leg I have right now, after almost three years, feels the best….but it’s not perfect. I can deal with what I have to deal with because it’s better than it’s ever been. I have to know that this is a good thing, I lowered my expectations to an 80-90% pain free, versus looking for 100% pain free. And I’m ok with that. I am also a better, happier, thus healthier ME, because I have come to terms with not feeling perfect.
Catch my drift?
You don’t need to settle, that’s not what I am saying, but know the difference of getting good, quality health care versus high expectations that NO ONE could possibly supply you.
I’m the lucky one. I had an amazing doctor who directed me to two of the most kind, caring and talented prosthetists around. They care about me, my lifestyle, and making my life the best they can give. I ask questions, tell them my symptoms and they work with me to achieve that. I don’t complain or blame them for ill-fitting sockets, I just ask for their help to make it better. I communicate clearly about what’s going on and they do the rest. We work together and make it a “give and take” relationship that works. After all, it’s going to be a long ride with these guys.
Work on journaling your feeling and where you are struggling. Try to keep track of and acknowledge the time of day, weather, and other factors that could be causing you issues. Is there a common thread? Can you work around that or fix it yourself? Is it your mindset holding you back or is it a true issue with your fit?
Practice being flexible and patient.
Understand and communicate with your practitioner about what you are going through, dealing with, and what you need. Pay attention to your body so you CAN communicate clearly. These small things will help you give them the best shot of actually helping you, after all, you are the only one who can feel what you feel and describe what’s going right and wrong. It’s our job to communicate clearly and accurately so they can help us to the best of their ability.
Let go off perfection. It won’t ever get there but those thoughts will make you grumpy and frustrated with everything going WRONG that you’ll forget to focus on what is going right. Be positive!
You can do this, I believe in you!
Change your mindset,
Stay positive,
Find a level of comfort you CAN live with and
Get out and live your life!!!
As always,
Be Healthy,
Be Happy,
Be YOU!!!
Much love,
Angie

It really has to be said that where our minds go, our hearts go, too. If you are stuck in a bad way, and can’t seem to find happiness or joy in your life then check your thoughts. How do you speak to yourself? How do you speak to others?
Everyone goes through trials, that’s just life. The way each of us deals with those trials, those valleys in our lives, determines how we come through them. I chose to amputate, and I choose to make the most of my life now. I try and choose happiness, joy, and a grateful heart everyday I wake up. Somedays it is harder than others, I get that, I have been there, but those moments do NOT dictate my overall mental state that day. Sometimes I need to practice speaking more positively towards myself, and giving myself some grace, on those days. Sometimes it’s easy to see the positive, and sometimes it’s the hardest thing EVER!
The point is, when you practice being grateful, and seeing all the good things in your life, in your circumstance, you will radiate joy, you will see the health benefits of a happy heart and mind. And they do go hand in hand.
Try it!
What are you happy about? What are you grateful for in your life?
In this podcast I share with you the people, and things, I am grateful for. I choose to practice gratefulness.
As you head into this Thanksgiving week, pay attention to the people and moments that are happening around you. Be grateful for even the smallest things. I guarantee you will feel so much better about yourself.
My Family❤
This week write down the things you are thankful for and place them where you can see them everyday.
*Use a smooth, fabric table cloth and permanent markers and begin a new tradition of writing something you are thankful for over the past year. Do this as a Thanksgiving tradition and each year add something to it with your friends and family. Then each year that you pull it out you’ll have a constant reminder of the things you’ve been thankful for over the years.
*Start a Thankfulness Jar. Have a big open jar or bowl sitting out for the holiday season with slips of paper, then each night have everyone write something they are thankful for that day, and then date them. On New Year’s Day have everyone take turns pulling them out and reading them.
*Begin a journal that is simply: I am thankful for:…..
Write in it every night, going to bed with a full heart of gratitude.
Have a very special, wonderful, and blessed Thanksgiving. Safe travels!
As always,
Be Healthy,
Be Happy,
Be YOU!
Much love and gratefulness,
Angie

We all face struggles in life. Some people it’s more obvious than with others but no one goes through life unscathed. It’s how we deal with those struggles that define us and give us the opportunities to live a great life or struggle to make ends meet.
Which are you? Are you making the most of your life or struggling to move past your circumstances?
Our mindset is a powerful tool that allows us to cope, deal with, and eventually rise back up again when we have been knocked down. However, this is not an easy skill to obtain. As a matter of fact, it takes experience to learn how to deal with adversities in our lives.
One thing I have learned through all that I have been through is that each bout of pain, frustration or struggle is just a phase that helps me grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. It is with these experiences that I come to you today to tell you that you can do it. You can make it through whatever it is that is holding you back from living an amazing life.
It is just a phase. What you are going through is strengthening you, if you allow it. The struggles are real, no doubt about it, but they do not define you! They are strengthening you so that you can better handle what comes next.
You can be successful just by getting back up every time you are knocked down. You deserve that! You owe it to yourself to give life your best shot. Don’t give up, GET UP!!! Again, and again, and again!!
Repeat after me:
This is just a phase.
This is just a phase.
This, too, shall pass.
Now, write down a positive affirmation for yourself that you can tape to your mirror and see every morning and every evening before you go to bed. Remind yourself that you deserve a great life. Remind yourself to have grace in the hard times. And never forget that what you are going through is just a phase. Take a deep breathe and step back for a moment. Find a positive in your life and then move forward again.
And as always:
Be Healthy,
Be Happy,
Be YOU!!!
Much love,
Angie

Do you throw your hands up in defeat or do you reach deep down and find the strength to carry on?
Do you belittle yourself into an out of control spin or do you use words of affirmation and pull yourself up by the bootstraps?
I have been realizing, of late, that I am struggling with motivation. I think the move did me in and I’m still recuperating from the physical battles I had to overcome with packing and unpacking a home. My body has been aching more and my residual limb, well, let’s just say we are trying to come to terms with what I want to do and what it is capable of doing.
I have pushing myself to get out the door and put my walks and exercise time in, only to find that my physical game is struggling, which then plays into my mental game. This past weekend I went for a long walk with my husband, only to find that my limb really didn’t have it in it to walk as long as I wanted to… but I pushed myself and my mind won. However, that wasn’t the only win that day. I walked the longest I had walked in my new socket- 2 miles, but I also pushed myself into an opportunity to see where my mental fortitude lay. This is how this podcast came about. I realized how much I talk to myself in the “heat of the battle”. My mind was speaking to my heart and my leg. I then asked myself why I go through this pain and hurt. What was I getting out of doing this to myself?
I learned a lot about myself as I walked in the 98 degree Arizona summer sun, pushing myself to go farther, to not turn around, and not to give up. I find that this is beneficial for me to see what I am made of, to work out the kinks in my prosthesis, and build my character and create positive moments in my life. Is it easy? Was it easy? Absolutely NOT! But as the saying goes, nothing worth earning comes from “easy”. We benefit more from a situation that is hard to get through because when we rise out on the other side we claim victory, and this is great for self motivation and helps us deal with the next hard moment, which is sure to come.
The question is, how are you handling those tough moments? Do you want to do better? Feel better? Look better? Then it comes down to your mindset and the way you talk to yourself. Positive self-talk is so important. We tell our kids to not put themselves down, when they screw up, but are we beating ourselves up when we fall short? It’s easy to say this to people when you realize what they are doing to themselves, but to practice what you preach can be tough and a hard pill to swallow. I realized the day after I did this walk that I had a really hard time with the pain and my usual exercise, and I started to get angry with myself, using negative words and being frustrated…. so easy to fall into that pattern. I saw that I was doing exactly what I said NOT to do and instantly changed my inner voice to a positive tone. Did it make it easier to finish, not necessarily, but I was better for it, and learned a lot about myself that day. I know that I can be physically strong but mentally weak and will struggle. These two go hand in hand. It’s time to change how you treat yourself and how you talk to yourself.
Listen in to this week’s podcast to hear how that day went for me, as I recorded in the midst of that moment. It’s raw emotion and the reality of that struggle and hear what you can do to help yourself the next time doubt and fear creep in to your mind.
This week I want you to really listen to your inner voice.
Are you speaking negatively to yourself? Putting yourself down and beating yourself up? Be honest. Nothing good will come from lying to yourself or being in denial.
Listen to your mind when you realize you’re battling something. What do you hear? More than likely you are negative. It’s really common to do that. We hate making mistakes, and sometimes we feel unworthy of where we are. Stop! Give yourself grace to fall, talk kindly to yourself and pick yourself back up.
This week practice positive self-talk. It’s time to ramp up your mental game so you can go out with confidence into this world and kick butt. There is no room for negativity. Love yourself for where you are now, set goals to where you want to be, and speak kindly and positively. You just might find yourself reach those goals quicker than you imagined you ever could.
You can do this! Believe in yourself, I do!
And as always,
Be Healthy,
Be Happy,
Be YOU!!!! (You deserve that!)
Much love,
Angie
